We have two bets in one of our top performing league, and below you will find one of them. With the Premier league and Eredivisie returning at the weekend, we are close to complete - Can’t wait for it all to begin, so why not sign up for the ride!

Giving up a two goal handicap is never easy, but we believe Basle can do just that when they entertain Grasshoppers this evening. One of the reasons for thinking this is the hosts won back to back against Thun (0-3) and Luzern (3-1), two teams that we consider better than todays opponent.

Basle started the Super league season with a 2-0 loss at Young Boys, but to be fair the result was hard on the reigning champions. Afterall, both sides had the equal amount of goal attempts and shots on target, and Basle had 63% ball possession. However, their opponents strikers took their chances better, and the result was their first opening season loss for 15 years.

Basle followed up with a more conclusive win over Luzern (3-1), and the only goal conceded was an ‘’own-goal’’. That was followed by an even better 0-3 win over Thun, although the result felt a goal heavy. On another positive note, new signing Ricky Van Wolfswinkel scored two goals during those three matches. In our opinion, the 28 year old looks cheap at a purchase price of €3.5M.

Last season, Basel beat Grasshoppers on all four occasions, and from what we have seen it’s hard to imagine a reversal. In fact, the visitors lost their two opening matches to Zurich (0-2) and Young Boys (0-4), and they should have been defeated by Luzern (2-2) in the last round. On that occasion Basle got off to a flyer and took a two goal lead, but they were generally outplayed. For the record, match stats show 61-39% possession, 22-4 goal attempts and 8-2 shots on target !

It’s hard to imagine anything other than a comfortable home win. We can’t imagine the Champions taking their eye off claiming top spot, so the bet is clear.
