ALISON VAN UYTVANCK vs PETRA MARTIC – PREVIEW
Petra Martic isn’t the most robust of players, and she’s worth taking on with indoor specialist Alison Van Uytvanck!
We should start by saying that the Croatian twice beat Van Uytvanck, and both those matches ended in straight sets! Nevertheless, neither meeting took place on indoor hard court, and that is the deal changer!
For the record, Martic won just 52.9% of her matches on this surface. She limited herself to playing just 85 of her 722 matches on indoor hard court, and only 8 over the last 4 years. Incidentally, she won just three of those matches against opponents ranked 150, 128 & 118.
Furthermore, while the 32-year-old won over $7 million in prize money, she wasn’t able to win any of her 40 indoor tournaments.
As a matter of fact, Van Uytvanck won over 69% (143/63) of her indoor matches. In comparison, her average strike rate is 59.4% and that number sinks to 52.2% on hard court, and 56.1% on clay.
The 28-year-old is a past semi-finalist in Linz, and she collected 10 tournament trophies when playing on this surface! In the first round here, Van Uytvanck beat the up & coming Linda Noskova in straight sets. To add a bit of perspective, the 18-year-old Russian is ranked 50 and won 77.8% of her indoor matches.
In summary, Martic tends to sway away from this surface and she’s using the tournament for preparation purposes. Whereas the motives of Van Uytvanck are clear, she’s out to win!
