ALMERIA vs RAYO VALLECANO – BETTING PREVIEW
SPAIN LA LIGA
At the end of the last season, Almeria avoided relegation by one point. On the final day, an 87th-minute penalty was converted by Embarba to earn the Red & Whites a vital point.
For the record, if Valladolid had won their match with Getafe (0-0) it would have been the Segunda division for Rubi’s men!
By the way, if Almeria had been relegated it would have been because they were poor on the road. In fact, they ended the campaign with just one away win and thirteen defeats (1-5-13).
In comparison, at the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos, Almeria managed 33 points. To cut a long story short, that meant they were the 8th best host in La Liga.
In the meantime, Vincente Moreno was appointed the new manager of Almeria. Also, 13 new player acquisitions replaced the same amount leaving. While the club cashed in €28M from the sale of El Bilal Toure, they have been spending that on bolstering the squad.
The hosts will be starting the season opener without Leo Baptistao and Martin Svidersky, but that shouldn’t be an issue. After all, Luis Suarez would be a natural to lead the line, and a few of the new players will be in the starting XI.
RAYO VALLECANO PROFILE
As for Rayo Vallecano, the visitors finished last season in a mid-table 11th. Interestingly, that number was consistent with the Purple Stripes being the 11th best on both home & away form.
Rayo started the last campaign like a hose on fire, and they only ended 4 points outside the European places. However, just 4 wins from their last 18 games were disappointing, albeit it could have been a blessing in disguise. After all, this small club doesn’t have the resources to compete on more than one stage!
With regard to the new season, Franciso Rodriguez will be in charge of the visitors. At an average squad age of 28.3, the 45-year-old coach is in charge of one of the oldest squads in the league.
Francisco doesn’t seem to be missing any players for the opener, and he could start with new signings Lejeune, Espino, and Hernandez. By the way, Raul de Tomas is expected to get the nod at center-forward, meaning Radamel Falcao, Bebe, and Andres Martin should all be on the bench.
