On paper, this is a dream final! As you can ascertain from the odds, the bookmakers are finding it hard to split the pair. However, we are confident of landing our pre-tournament recommendation, and that is Argentina will lift the trophy.

We have to start by saying that team France has risen to the challenge. Despite not having N’Golo Kante, Paul Pogba, and Karim Benzema available, coach Didier Deschamps has found the right balance. In fact, what looked like weak links turned into strengths, and the team spirit is clear to see!

While big tournaments were expected from the likes of Mbappe and Dembele, it’s the old boys who have impressed. Both Oliver Giroud (36) & Hugo Lloris (35) played massive roles in making it to the final. At the top end of the field, Giroud showed his noose to sink England. Also, scoring the winner made the 36-year-old his country’s time top goalscorer.

At the other end of the pitch, Lloris save his team on many occasions. The Captain has led by example, and that was especially the case when he psyched out Harry Kane to miss a crucial penalty.

For the most part, France has been playing at maximum. Nevertheless, they rode their luck against England, and Lloris won’t always be able to save his team. Furthermore, Les Bleue’s don’t have the deepest bench, and a number of players are struggling to be ready!

Stop press – Giroud is carrying a knee injury. The AC Milan striker was taken off after 65 minutes against Monaco, and his participation is in doubt. All of Dayot Upamecano, Adrien Rabiot, Kingsley Coman, Raphael Varane and Ibrahima Konate have been ill. While they were able to train yesterday, they haven’t been feeling 100%!

Meanwhile, Argentina started the tournament with a defeat against Saudi Arabia. Subsequently, La Albiceleste beat Poland and Mexico to finish top of Group C, before getting the better of Australia (2-1) in the first playoff.  In their next match, Lionel Scaloni’s team failed to protect a 2-0 lead against the Netherlands. The game needed extra time and penalties before Argentina advanced!

The South American’s best performance was the semi-final win against Croatia. While everyone played a part in the win, the two strikers put three goals past their opponent for a decisive victory.

Argentina has two massive weapons leading the line, namely Lionel Messi and Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez. Both Alexis Mac Allistar and Rodrigo de Paul have been energetic in midfield, and Cristian Romero must be one of the best center-backs in the world.

If we look at the Argentina bench it’s stronger than that of France, and that of course gives the manager options.

In conclusion, our pre-tournament bet was Argentina, and we believe they can do it. The team has grown into this tournament, and they have better players. Finally, they have the midfield to counter the danger of Griezmann, and they will man mark Mbappe.
