ASCOT 1:30 BUBBLE DUBI 13/2

PERSIAN TIME is in the right hands, and he finished 2nd in a good point-to-point. Nevertheless, Nicky Henderson’s 4-year-old is bred to be a stayer, and I’m expecting him to need further.

It is easy to understand why KANDOO KID is the favourite. After all, when last seen he beat the 133-rated SHALLWEHAVEONEMORE & PEKING ROSE.

However, on that occasion, he was ridden by a 3-pound claimer, and odds of 11/1 suggest winning wasn’t expected. Also, the 6-year-old hasn’t raced for 384 days! He’s set to carry a five-pound penalty, and there is no value in his current odds.

The stable of Harry Skelton is starting to churn out winners, but I can’t see DON HOLLOW being the next. While the 5-year-old won a bumper, he will need to improve on his hurdling debut.

The recent 3rd of 14 for MASTER CHEWY gives him a chance, it’s just that winning is something else. Since we bet him last time out, I can tell you that I wasn’t at all happy with the ride given to BUBBLE DUBI. In fact, since schooling in public is frowned upon, I expected the stewards to ask Gavin Sheehan for an explanation.

For the record, I’m not saying he would have won that Chepstow race. All the same, he finished full of running and he’s clearly better than the bare form. Meanwhile, Ciaran Gethings is taking over in the saddle, and everything is in place for a big run!
