4:35 CARRIGILLIHY 11/2

Beverley takes a bit of understanding, and it’s a good test for both horse & rider. One thing is certain, softies won’t be winning at this stiff track.

On that note, TWO BROTHERS placed either 2nd or 3rd in 8 of his 17 races. While the 5-year-old appears to try, he’s been expensive to follow. To cut a long story short, he’s one for the Placepot but not the Jackpot!

SUGERPIRHONEYBUNCH won her last two races at Thirsk and Catterick! Aidan Brookes rode the 5-year-old to win her last race, and the 5-pound claimer retains the ride today. By taking an automatic penalty, Simon West’s mare is one pound well in. However, the ground is different today and this is a better grade of race.

Meanwhile, BIG CHEESE made a promising reappearance. Despite racing freely, Edward Bethell’s lightly raced 4-year-old stayed on well to finish 2nd/10 at Pontefract. By turning out after 8 days, the gelding gets to circumvent a one-pound higher mark. Nevertheless, this is a quick turnaround, and the drying ground won’t help his cause!

It would be hard to make a case for YORKINDNESS, BAY DREAM BELIEVER, READY TO SHINE or FOURSOME. The last three are fully exposed, whereas the Charlie Johnston runner will find this too far!

For the most part, I’m not the biggest fan of Tim Easterby. The reason is a low strike rate, and what I call factory training! On the other hand, never say never and we should take a chance with CARRIGILLIHY.

Under the circumstances, the 5-year-old made a pleasing comeback. After all, the ground would have counted against him at Doncaster, and his best efforts were on a stiff track. In fact, he won three of his races at Pontefract, and he ran well at Leicester and Carlisle. Finally, he’s back down to a winning mark, and he won on his 2nd attempt last season!
