US Open winner Bianca Andreescu leads the head-to-head 2-1. Nevertheless, Marie Bouzkova won the last meeting, and that was on these courts in 2021.

Despite missing the whole of 2020 through injury, in March of that year, Andeescu reached a career-high rank of 4. In the meantime, the 22-year-old dropped to today’s rank of 42.

Over the past two seasons, the Canadian played 64 matches. In 2021 she ended on 17/13, and last year 21/13. Her two matches this year ended in a win over Muguruza before losing to Kudermetova.

During the last campaign, Bianca first returned to the WTA circuit in mid-April. Her season highlights included making it to the final of a WTA250 in Bad Homburg and the QF of Rome.

The furthest Andreescu made it in this tournament was the 2nd round in 2019 and 2021. For the record, she was stopped by Su-Wei Hsieh and Anastasia Sevastova.

Meanwhile, having recently peaked at a career-high rank of 24, Marie Bouzkova is progressing to the top twenty.

In 2022, the now 24-year-old won 42 of her 58 matches. Of those, she was 33/11 (75%) on the hard courts. Bouzkova won last year’s Prague, and she reached an early season final in Guadalajara.

However, her big prize money came from making the QF of Wimbledon, and the end-of-season semi-final in the Guadalajara Open. By the way, no points were given for Wimbledon, otherwise, she would be ranked at around 16!

To cut a long story short, Bouzkova is improving and confident. Her style of play frustrates big hitters, and proof of that is last year’s win over Pliskova, Garcia, Collins, and Pegula.

In summary, Andreescu has something to prove. Her game lacks consistency and she’s no longer dominating games. Bouzkova will put up a stern defense and use her opponent’s power to redirect the ball. We simply can’t imagine Andreescu hitting through her opponent, and that means curtains!
