CATY McNALLY vs DONNA VEKIC – BETTING TIP
It is fair to suggest that Donna Vekic struggled over the past two years, and she looks vulnerable in this one!
At the end of 2019, Vekic reached a career-high rank of 19. During that same season, the Croatian player made the quarter-final of the US Open. Also, she was a finalist on the grass court in Nottingham, and the same in St Petersburg. Her win/loss was a solid 37/24, and she had beaten a number of high-profile players.
In 2020, Vekic could only win 8 of her 19 matches, and at the end of the 2021 campaign, her win/loss was 19/16. While the 25-year-old won Courmayeur, her rank was getting nearer 100!
With regards to the current season, Donna is 12/8 and started the week with a rank of 92. For the record, despite winning three matches in Birmingham, her live ranking dropped to 93!
We thought Caty McNally was excellent against her last-round opponent Elise Mertens. While she needed three sets to seal the deal, it was a high-quality match. In fact, the 20-year-old American showed just how good she could be on grass.
For those who haven’t watched McNally, she’s got all the attributes to do even better on this surface. As an example, in yesterday’s match, the American was really aggressive. She was charging the net and played a number of sublime volleys. Her drop shot was super effective, and she was quick at covering the court!
In summary, McNally will take a lot of confidence from beating her last-round opponent. Expect her to attack Vekic, and then it will be down to execution.
