CHELTENHAM BOOKIE KILLERS

 1:30 APPRECIATE IT 11/4

I don’t care if he’s unbeaten over fences, I’m going to lay the short odds favourite MIGHTY POTTER! While the 6-year-old has been well-placed to win his races, I believe he’s going to be challenged today.

For the purpose of argument, I am going to say Gordon Elliott’s charge didn’t beat much. Now, you need to hear me out as I go into confirmation bias mode! The son of Martaline won his last race from 40/1 shot ADAMANTLY CHOSEN who was then 7th/10 to THE REAL WHACKER

While another of his opponents GAILLARD DU MESNIL won a 3M2F race in Cheltenham, he was racing at the wrong distance. Furthermore, there wasn’t much more depth in any of those races, and on his only run at the festival, he disappointed.

To cut a long story short, my gut is feeling is 18 fences and odds of 8/11 are a bad combination. Under those circumstances, I will be making a point of laying the jolly!

The home team is led by Paul Nicholls 7-year-old STAGE STAR and Nicky Henderson’s BALCO COASTAL. The first mentioned is in great form, and he is proven over course and distance. Harry Cobden’s mount should at least be competitive for a place, but I can’t imagine BALCO COASTAL being involved.

Meanwhile, I’m taking the Willie Mullins trained to APPRECIATE IT. The lightly raced 9-year-old might have been below par at Leopardstown, but this 8-time winner is better than that!

For the record, the son of JEREMY won the 2021 Supreme hurdle by 24L, and that was on the ground like today. Another positive factor is stepping back up in distance, and since he’s tactically versatile he can set his own fractions. Finally, stepping back up in distance is a big selling point!
