Daria Kasatkina leads the head-to-heads 4/1, and of those, she’s 2/1 on hard courts. Incidentally, the last of those wins was at Sydney in 2022!
By the end of the last campaign, the 25-year-old had won 42 of her 63 matches. Season highlights included winning tournaments in Granby and San Jose and being a semi-finalist at the French Open. As a consequence of her excellent season, Dasha reached a career-high rank of 8!
However, her record in Miami is poor! In fact, at last year’s event, she was ditched in the first round by Aliaksandra Sasnovich. Her other visits never went beyond two matches, and she lost more matches than she won at this tournament!
For the most part, Elise Mertens struggled through 2022. While she bounced back to win Monastir, taking that tournament was one of a few highlights!
On a positive note, the 27-year-old had a better start to the new season, including a semi-final in Monterrey. Moreover, in beating Alicia Parks (6/1 6/4), Elise looked good in the first round here.
Based on what we have been watching, this looks like a good time for Mertens to get one back on Kasatkina. Previous efforts at this tournament and recent form suggest the Russian has something to prove.
