FIORENTINA vs INTER MILAN – FOOTBALL PICK
ITALIAN CUP FINAL
Tonight is the Final of the Italian Cup. The kick-off time is 21:00, and the match will take place at the Stadio Olimpico (Rome).
For the record, Inter is the reigning cup holder. The last time Fiorentina lifted the trophy was at the end of the 2000/01 season. During that time, Inter has won the cup five times, albeit just once over the last eleven years!
As it stands, with two games remaining Inter (66 points) is 3rd in Serie A. The Black & Blue need one more point to secure a top 4 finish and qualify for next season’s Champions League. Alternatively, Simone Inzaghi’s team will qualify by beating Manchester City in this year’s final.
In comparison, Fiorentina are a mid-table 11th. While the Violets won’t be able to make an impact on the League, they made it to two finals. Incidentally, the other one is the Europa Conference League in which they play West Ham.
At the weekend, Inzaghi fielded a much-changed side which lost (3-1) to Napoli. In that match, Roberto Gagliardini was sent off on 41 minutes and two late goals were the difference.
We expect Inter to revert to a similar side that knocked AC Milan out of the Champions League. If that case, Lautaro Martinez and Edin Dzeko will lead the line. Samir Handanovic is likely to get his chance in goal, although Andre Onana will return for the Champions League final.
From what we understand, Inter is only without long-term injured Milan Skriniar and Henrikh Mkhitaryan.
Meanwhile, guessing Fiorentina starting XI isn’t easy! After all, head coach Vincenzo Italiano tends to adapt his team to the opponent.
On that note, in April, Fiorentina won (0-1) an away game in Inter. On that occasion, the coach went with a 4-2-3-1, and for the most part, that tactic was right.
In the weekend draw with Torino, Italiano rested a number of senior players. Of those, Sofyan Amrabat, Cristiano Biraghi, and top scorer Arthur Cabral are expected to start tonight. Also, Giacomo Bonaventura returns from suspension, while Salvatore Sirigu is injured!
