FONTWELL VALUE BETTING PICK
2:50 ECHO WATT 6/1
The lightly raced COOLVALLA is the perfect 3 from 3 over fences. Two of his chase wins came at this track, and the latest was by a wide (19L) margin. During the interim, the 7-year-old moved up 27 pounds in the weights.
Suffice to say, over this marathon distance, the extra weight will make it much harder. Furthermore, the quality of the opposition is better, and the good-soft ground is an unknown factor. To cut a long story short, Chris Gordon’s gelding is up against it!
While she’s 9 years old, Harry Whittington’s JUNIPER was only able to race 9 times. Nevertheless, with three straight wins, the daughter of MALINAS is making up for the lost time.
On a positive note, the handicapper only raised the mare 7 pounds for her latest win. Since she finished that race 27L in front of the 2nd-placed runner, she’s fairly treated. However, despite having conditions in her favour, odds of around 15/8 are unappealing.
On that note, the one I like is Lilly Pinchin’’s mount ECHO WATT. While the 9-year-old has more miles on the clock, he’s 7 pounds lower than his last winning mark.
If we go back two races, Richard Hobson’s grey ran a good 2nd on similar ground at Lingfield. Also, he was 3rd/15 in a 3M5F race, suggesting that distance isn’t going to be an issue. Lastly, he’s a working man’s price, and these odds represent real value.
