AYR 12:35 WHISTLEINTHEDARK 5/1

Before going off for a well-earned summer holiday, CHARM OFFENSIVE won back-to-back races. Both of those wins were at this track, and so was her recent 2nd of 5 to ETERNALLY YOURS. Neill Alexander’s mare was raised another 3 pounds for that effort. Also, she’s set to carry topweight today, although Bruce Lynn will be reducing that burden by 5 pounds.

At the end of 2021, GENTLEMAN DE MAI won a weak novice hurdle over two miles at this track. Following a 376-day absence, Rose Dobbin’s 6-year-old returned to finish 5th/13 at Kelso. To cut a long story short, the son of SADDLER MAKER was dropped a pound and he will need to improve.

At these odds, I prefer to take a chance with the well-being of WHISTLEINTHEDARK. Since the last racing, the lightly raced 7-year-old left Richard Hawker to join Laura Morgan. He should be capable of competing from a mark of 110, and these conditions will suit him!

SOUTHWELL 1:35 MEXICAN BOY 3/1

I remember ZUCKERBERG winning a hurdle and chase for Charlotte Prichard in France. The 7-year-old takes his racing well, and he bounced back to winning ways last time out. Nevertheless, Jennie Candlish’s gelding is fully exposed, and we have to go back 37 races for his previous win. Moreover, a 7-pound penalty is an extra burden, and so is this faster ground. Despite this race lacking strength in depth, it is hardly surprising to see the favorite drifting.

With 6 wins from his 31 races, Brendan Powell’s mount ARDMAYLE is more prolific. However, the 10-year-old is better at shorter distances than this, and he needs to improve on recent efforts.

The one I like most is chasing debutant MEXICAN BOY. Sean Bowen’s mount made a reasonable seasonal debut, and he starts his chasing career with a low mark. Consequently, the grey has scope for fences, and this race is winnable
