Alize Cornet saves her best for the bigger tournaments. Earlier on in the year, the 32-year-old made the QF of the Australian Open by beating Muguruiza and Halep. In the other Grand Slams, Cornet reached the 4th round of Wimbledon and the 3rd in Paris.

However, while the French player made a big effort at the majors, she’s not done much at this level. In fact, she’s only played in six WTA250 tournaments, and this is one of them.

For the record, she lost in the first round of Melbourne, Adelaide, Lyon and Portoroz. The other defeat was in the 2nd round of Prague, meaning the furthest she’s been in a WTA250 is the 2nd round!

On the back of this year’s 23/22, Cornet is currently at rank 37. In the first round here, Alize beat Laura Pigossi although she needed a tie break for the first set.

Meanwhile, motivation won’t be an issue for Harriet Dart. After all, this is the 26-year-old level, and she will do everything she can to stay in the top 100.

Dart won half (25/25) of her matches this season, with the highlight being her fourth round at Indian Wells. At that $9.5M tournament, she beat Svitolina and Kanepi before losing to Madison Keys. Also, the Brit beat Vekic, Giorgi, Teichmann and Kostyuk on her way to reaching the quarter-finals in Nottingham and Eastbourne.

In the first round here, Harriet got the better of Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in straight sets. From what we have been watching, she’s playing her best tennis and will be up for this challenge!
