Meanwhile, Liudmila Samsonova had a slow start to the campaign. With the exception of making the final of Abu Dhabi, Samsonova has been disappointing.
In fact, the 24-year-old lost nine of her 19 matches, and six of them were to lower-ranked players. As for names, Donna Vekic (Australian Open), Amanda Anisimova, Sofia Kenin, and Bernarda Pera beat the Russian player.
Liudmila won her first match against Maryna Zanevska easily, but that player is out of form! In her only other clay court tournament this year, Barbora Krejcikova didn’t waste time (6/2 6/0) in dispatching the 18-ranked player!
Since 2019, Samsonova played 56 clay court matches, and her 28-28 (win/loss) tells its own story!
While you would never want to risk your mortgage money on Ostapenko, she’s significantly better than her opponent on clay.
