KATERINA SINIAKOVA vs ANA BOGDAN – TIP
At one stage of her career, Katerina Siniakova reached a career-high rank of 31. From 2016 to 2018, the 26-year-old made five ‘’singles’’ finals. Of those, she won Shenzhen and the Swedish Open.
However, other than the 2021 final of Bad Homburg, Siniakova fell off the radar of the single! The obvious excuse is her concentration on doubles, and on that note……
Since May 2021, the Czech won 9 successive WTA doubles finals. Moreover, three of those were Grand slams, while others included the tour finals and an Olympics gold. Six of those wins were with Barbora Krejcikova, and the latest was at this year’s Wimbledon.
Consequently, Siniakova is finding doubles more lucrative, albeit she doesn’t have a partner for Warsaw. Suffice to say, her focus this week is on singles only!
In the first round, Siniakova beat Jesika Melickova in straight sets. On paper, a 6/2 6/4 is comfortable, but the fact is it took her 2:04 to beat a player ranked 216.
Interestingly, her opponent Ana Bogdan is playing doubles with Kristina Mladenovic. They will have their first match of the week tomorrow, thus Bogdan can concentrate on the task ahead.
The Romanian won (6/4 7/6) her opening singles match against Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in 1:58. While Bogdan was the favourite for that fixture, her opponent was ranked 53 places higher.
For the most part, the 30-year-old won the big points. In fact, she converted all three break points and held her nerve to win a second-set tiebreaker.
In summary, Bogdan is the more reliable player, and she’s being offered at bigger odds than we had expected.
