LUZERN vs BASLE – BETTING PREVIEW
SWISS SUPER LEAGUE
This is round 23 of the 36. While Young Boys are 13 points clear at the top of the table, the other nine teams are within 12 points of each other. With this in mind, the next three months should prove interesting!
As it stands, with 30 points on the board, Luzern is 4th in the table. However, while the hosts are the 2nd best travelers, they are just 8th of 10 at home. Moreover, the team coached by Mario Frick took two more points away compared to home.
Over the years, the Shiners have had a reputation for being at their best in away games. One of the reasons put forward for this phenomenon is crowd pressure, with the host’s supporters quick to get on the player’s back!
On a positive note, the hosts broke a three-match winless streak by beating last-round opponent Grasshoppers. However, while Luzern was the better team that day (xG 2.17 – 0.77), they did make heavy weather of beating a poor traveler.
Luzern won other matches at the Swissporarena against Lugano and Sion, but the fact is they are just 3-5-3 at home.
First-choice goalkeeper Marius Muller is sidelined for the hosts. In his continued absence, 19-year-old rookie Pascal Loretz will be given the gloves for a fifth game in succession. Marco Burch remains in the treatment room, and the same applies to Jakub Kadak.
When Basle last visited this stadium, they left with a 0-2 win. Since then Luzern took their revenge with a 2-3 on the road, albeit they needed an injury-time winner.
For the record, that was the last game in charge for former coach Alex Frei. The interim coach is Heiko Vogel, and since the 47-year-old took charge the club’s fortunes have changed.
Under the new boss, the Bebi are unbeaten in the league. Furthermore, they have qualified for the next round of the Europa conference League and the Swiss Cup.
While Basel could only draw in the last round of the league, the players fought hard to come from two goals behind. More recently, the Bebi came from a goal behind to win a cup game in St Gallen!
The visitors are without suspended Michael Lang for today’s match. The other confirmed absentee is injured defender Arnau Comas, while Taulant Xhaka remains a doubt.
If we look at this match analytically, Basle has the better group of players. Also, they are giving their best to the new boss, and they are playing a team who struggles at home.
