MADISON KEYS vs ELENA RYBAKINA – PICK
It would be hard to criticise this week’s performance of either player. After all, they both won three matches in straight sets, and in doing so beat top opponents. However, with the odds bias like it is, we see a good opportunity to take Madison Keys.
In the first round, the American was given a hard first match against Yulia Putintseva. Nevertheless, she used it as a stepping stone to beat another power player Jelena Ostapenko. What followed was an even better performance against Iga Swiatek. In fact, Keys defended better than ever, and she converted 5 from 14 breakpoints.
For the record, the 27-year-old Keys won the only meeting with Elena Rybakina. That was in the 3rd round of this year’s French Open when a final-set tie break was the difference.
Meanwhile, Keys improved match-for-match in Cincinnati, and if in the same level of form she will take some stopping!
Wimbledon winner Rybakina must have taken a lot of confidence from winning a Grand slam. Unfortunately, because of the war and Russian absence, London was played without the benefit of tournament points! If those (2000) had been given, the 23-year-old would be ranked 6 compared to her actual 23.
Nevertheless, Rybakina is back at it, and she’s been striking the ball well. She had an easy run into the QF, and in our opinion, her best performance was against Alison Riske. In two previous rounds, Elena beat Mayar Sherif and the out-of-sorts Gabriele Muguruza.
Both players will be attacking from the start, and who executes best will proceed to the semi-final. On paper, it’s a 50/50 match which could go either way. All the same, with positive odds of 2.31 we must get behind Keys.
