MONDAY RACING – AYR VALUE TIP
AYR 2:40 FEVER ROQUE 9/2
To qualify for a handicap mark, Nicky Richards ran TIFOU twice over hurdles. Suffice to say, switching to fences with a mark of 106 could be advantageous. However, a word of warning, Nicky Richards was beaten in his three races at short odds.
In fact, he was 8/11 for his debut bumper, and subsequently beaten at odds of 9/4 and 6/4. While the 6-year-old should do better at this game, I wouldn’t put much faith in Sean Quinlan’s mount.
Andrew Hamilton’s 4-year-old TOUCAN SAM is switching to fences with a handy 10-pound weight for age allowance. Furthermore, he’s booked 7-pound claimer William Shanahan to take the ride!
While he should be competitive for a place, I doubt he will be fully wound up for his seasonal debut.
Stuart Coltherd is running two, and his first jockey chose FIRST ILLUSION ahead of GANDHI MAKER. The son of WESTERNER raced just 5 times over hurdles, and he’s on a 4-pound lower mark than his stable compatriot.
Nevertheless, if I was offered a head-to-head on the pair, I would put Jamie Hamilton’s mount ahead. He won a point-to-point, and Hamilton is a good jockey.
One that has something to prove is THUNDER IN MILAN. While he started his career with a nose 2nd in a bumper race, it’s been downhill ever since!
Meanwhile, I’m going to call FEVER ROQUE the most likely winner. When last seen, Rebecca Menzies 7 year old chased home the well-handicapped GREEN VAULT. Incidentally, his conqueror went up 13-pounds since, whereas the selection was dropped a pound for his chasing debut.
For the record, the selection is one of two runners in this field to have won under the rules. Finally, he’s going to be much better at this game, and any further easing in the ground will suit him better again.
