MUSSELBURGH 1.50 – MUST BET
1:50 FLYINGLIKEANEAGLE 7/2
SHAHNAZ was well supported (13/8) before winning at Hamilton. While the 3-year-old was ridden out, the son of DECORATED NIGHT was 4.5 lengths clear at the line. Gemma Tutty’s filly is due to go up 7 pounds, but by taking an automatic penalty she’s 6 pounds higher.
Nevertheless, despite having the best recent form, I want to take on the filly. One of the reasons for looking elsewhere is her wins came at Hamilton. For those who don’t know, that track is one of the stiffest in the country. In contrast, Musselburgh is sharp & fast and it suits a different type.
Based on what I previously mentioned, I cannot understand the reason for dropping AYR POET back in distance. While the 7-year-old is a CD winner that race was a while back, and he’s been racing further. In fact, Jim Goldie’s gelding comes into this on the back of running 11F at Hamilton.
UNASHAMED is two pounds higher for dead-heating at Newcastle. Interestingly, connections are continuing to step him up in distance, and that is an unknown. Furthermore, the race he won was a soft one, and he’s set to carry two pounds more.
AYR EMPRESS would have a chance at her best, it’s just that she’s struggling. While first-time cheekpieces could spark a positive reaction, she’s got something to prove.
SPARKLEINHISEYE is up 3 pounds for winning, and Aiden Brookes won’t be allowed his 7-pound claim today. Suffice to say, with that advantage taken away he’s going to find this harder.
FLYINGLIKEANEAGLE wins in turn, and he’s two pounds lower than in future races. Moreover, William Pyle is riding for his attached trainer, meaning he’s allowed to claim 3 pounds. The 5-year-old is running well, and he will appreciate the extra furlong.
