NAO HIBINO vs KIMBERLEY BIRRELL – BETTING TIP
WTA INDIAN WELLS – QUALIFICATION PICK
It would be hard to find anything positive to say about the match between Nao Hibino and Kamilla Rakhimova. If we wanted to be nice, the Japanese player was mentally stronger in coming from a set down!
Nevertheless, our job is to be analytical and judge performance. On that note, despite Hibino making 80% first-serves Rakhimova wasn’t tested! In fact, the Russian broke her opponent seven times, it is just that she was let down by her own serve. To cut a long story short, we were mesmerized to see how the Russian player folded tamely.
At her best, Hibino did at least manage to reach a career-high rank of 56. However, that was in 2016, and more recently she’s been ranked outside the top 100. As a matter of fact, the 28-year-old is ranked 138 and on a downward spiral.
As for Kimberley Birrell, the Australian is yet to make it into the top 100. On a more upbeat note, Birrell started the week on a career-high tank of 115. A first-round qualification win improved the 24-year-olds rank to 109, so she’s close to the breakthrough.
For the record, Birrell started the new season with a 16/6. All of those matches were played on hardcourt, and the most recent was a 6/4 6/2 win over Jodie Anna Burrage.
What is more, Birrell won a W60 in Orlando, with Rebecca Peterson being the player she beat in the final. Other wins against Tatjana Maria, Varvara Gracheva, Anna Bondar, and Xiyu Wang defied the odds, and so did making the QF in Merida.
Despite being beaten by Rakhimova in Monterrey, Birrell had a valid excuse. After all, she was playing Merida up to the day before, and she tired towards the end of the 3rd set. In short, the form line means little, especially since Rakhimova is radically inconsistent!
Our advice, take the Aussie to win & cover 3 games.
