NEWBURY LISTED RACE – GET ON!

3:45 JUNIPER BERRIES 7/2

A bit of rain seems to be getting into the ground, which is now being described as good-soft. Since it doesn’t take much of an excuse for UK-based trainers to scratch runners, all of BAND OF JOY, MAKE IT EASY, and UNBREAK MY HEART has become non-runners!

MIAHARRIS was well-fancied to win on her debut and she didn’t disappoint. The Owen Burrows’ trained daughter of ZOUSTAR won that 5-runner Sandown race by a comfortable 3.25L.

Incidentally, the 2nd from that race was given a provisional rating of 69, whereas the disappointing TALLULABELLE is rated 80. Suffice to say, the form is difficult to evaluate, albeit it’s far from listed class!

With all due respect, I can’t understand why MIAHARRIS is the favourite for this better contest!

As for MAJESTIC BEAUTY, the daughter of HAVANA BAY won both her races to date. And, while the last of them was by a winning margin of a head, the rest were well-beaten. For the most part, Kevin Stott’s mount should run well on ground that will suit!

BETTING-ANALYST SELECTION

However, I won’t be looking any further than JUNIPER BERRIES. Despite being given a bad ride at Goodwood, the Eve Johnson Houghton fill will be ridden by her winning rider Charles Bishop.

For the record, the 5 times raced EXPERT EYE filly won on her debut by 4.75L. The runners she beat included 78-rated GREY GRAY and 82-rated BEENHAM. Subsequently, she ran 4 times and finished 4/26 in the Group 2 Queen Mary at Royal Ascot.

In her most recent race, her 4L 2nd to FLORA OF BERMUDA at Goodwood can partly be put down to not getting a clear run at a vital stage. Nevertheless, she was game in staying on strongly, and she again showed a liking for easy ground.

Her trainer entered JUNIPER BERRIES in the GP1 Cheverley Park Stakes and the GP2 Lowther Stakes. She’s highly regarded by connections, and capable of improvement. In short, this looks to be a great opportunity!
