The issue that I have with STAR OF ORION is a poor win record. In fact, Ralph Beckett’s 5-year-old won just two of his 22 races. Furthermore, the gelding finished 2nd on six occasions, and his two wins came on good-firm ground. To cut a long story short, Rossa Ryan’s mount should be included in the placepot but not the jackpot!
FIRST FOLIO won his three races at six furlongs, thus suggesting his stamina is questionable. One thing is certain, facing the hill with a top weight of 10-4 will test the five-year-old’s resolve. Both MITROSONFIRE and NIZAAKA are CD winners, and they are capable of better than recent form.
Nevertheless, for the winner, we won’t be looking beyond the Royal-owned CANDLE OF HOPE. The daughter of CABLE BAY comes from a stable in great form, and she’s been running well in better races than this. Also, she’s nicely treated and will be perfectly suited to the conditions. Lastly, the drop back to 7F in a properly run race is the selling point!
