 3:27 FANTASY MASTER 9/2

SERGEANT PEP needs easier ground than he’s likely to get here. The other issues I have with Clive Cox’s 4-year-old are his handicap mark of 80 and the Nottingham track.

Before his recent return, ABBEY HEIGHTS missed 518 days of racing. While Daniel & Claire Kubler’s gelding should come on for his 17th/26, he’s got something to prove.

The one I like most is CD winner FANTASY MASTER. While his trainer Darryll Holland hasn’t had a winner in the last 28 races, three of the stable’s last four runners finished 2nd.

Ray Dawson’s mount comes into this on the back of a 2.5 lengths 6th/26 to NORTHCLIFF. The 6-year-old won 3 of his four races at this course, while the other was at a similar track (Doncaster). On another positive note, the selection’s last two wins came from a higher mark than he’s been set today.

4:27 DRINK DRY 9/1

PHOENIX PASSION was well placed to win 3 of his 8 races for in-form trainer Ed Walker. The gelding won his last two races at Windsor and Goodwood, and he was only raised 2 pounds for his latest success. Since the ground won’t be an issue, the son of TOO DARN HOT is the one to beat. However, my main reason for opposing Saffie Osborne’s is the best odds of 7/4, especially since this is a better race than the one he won!

One that finished behind the favourite at Goodwood was MUTTASIL. On that occasion, I can’t imagine that the heavy ground would have worked against Shadwell Estate owned son of KINGMAN. And, while the Harry Eustace trained gelding lost a shoe in that race, he looked soft in the finish.

FRANCESCO BARACCA dropped three pounds after finishing a well-beaten 10th/12 at Newmarket. While the Eve Johnson Houghton gelding should be capable of better, this lesser distance is a concern.

I want us to side with DRINK DRY, and now for the reasons. Look at the stats, Marco Botti does well with handicappers. The son of SAXON WARRIOR can be forgiven for his most recent run because he didn’t handle the Brighton track.

Previously, the colt had been running well in Meydan, and he’s been dropped in the handicap. The up-and-coming jockey Billy Loughnane is a good booking, and first-time cheekpieces should help with concentration. Finally, odds of 8/1 are enticing enough and the fast ground is another incentive to call this bet!
