ONS JABEUR vs ARYNA SABALENKA – PICK
WTA FINALS – FORT WORTH
Aryna Sabalenka leads the head to heads 2/1, and one of those wins was on the hard court. While their last meeting was in 2021, nothing changed!
On the back of this year’s 46/15, Ons Jabeur starts the week at rank 2. In fact, the Tunisians as a slightly better strike rate than last season (48/19).
In 2022, Jabeur made 6 finals compared with three in 2021. Nevertheless, she could only win two of those in Madrid and Charleston. While Ons made it to two grand slam finals, she was stopped in Wimbledon by Elena Rybakina. For the record, she lost the US Open final to Iga Swiatek, and she only managed to win 3 of ten finals.
As it stands, Jabeur won just under $9 million in prize money. For a player of her age and ranking, that number is a bit disappointing.
Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka had a frustrating season. In fact, on the back of her 30/20 YTD, the 24-year-olds rank slipped from two to seven. In comparison, the player from Belarus ended the last campaign on 45/18!
However, the player from Belarus is 4 years younger than her opponent, and she won more ($9.8M) prize money. Also, she is the winner of 10 from 17 finals, and she’s the perfect 4/4 in WTA 1000 finals.
While the 24-year-old isn’t the most consistent player, she usually gets herself up for the big tournaments. Making the semi-final of this year’s US Open is proof of that, and it’s also the reason we are happy to write off her effort in Guadalajara.
In summary, look at the bigger picture. Sabalenka leads the head-to-heads, and she won’t suffer stage fright. Since the bookmakers have her as their 2nd-favorite, we will accommodate them!
