RACING – BIG BETTING DAY AHEAD
EXETER 2:07 PILSDON PEN 11/4
I’m not sure where the Racing Post got the 9/4 about PEDLEY WOOD. While everything has a price, I wouldn’t bet him at three times those odds! After all, the race he was beaten a short-head in was a moderate affair. While Joe Tizzard groupies can point to an improvement in stable form, I’m not buying into that factor!
KEPAGE won 4 of his 11 races, and one of them was last time out. Nevertheless, he’s not the force of old, and he’s been raised 5 pounds for that Ffos Las win.
On the basis of Sam Thomas (5/14) having his string in excellent form, a case could be made for SPONTHUS. However, the 8-year-old has only been able to race four times, and his last run would suggest he’s got something to prove.
Meanwhile, our friends the bookmakers have ISSAM as the favourite, but I disagree! Since joining Tom Symonds from French trainer A Chaille-Chaille, the 5-year-old dropped 7 pounds in the ratings. From what I’ve been watching, he needs to go down another 5-pounds before becoming interesting.
I have no hesitation in recommending the mount of Rex Dingle, namely PILSDON PEN. Jeremy Scott’s 6-year-old won three of his 10 hurdle races, and one of them was here. This distance of 2M2.5F is his ideal distance, and he’s only 4 pounds higher than his last winning mark.
Moreover, he’s receiving weight from the two ahead of him in the betting market, and the good-soft ground is ideal.
