WORCESTER 3:00 BANNISTER 7/2
Since last running HICONIC had wind surgery. While she could benefit from that operation, her recent form is uninspiring.
He might be 11 years old, but it didn’t stop GLIMPSE OF GOLD from winning three races this year. However, all good things come to an end, and Sarah Humphrey’s gelding isn’t helped by a career-high handicap mark.
HURRICANE ALLI has a good win record, but like with GLIMPSE OF GOLD the handicapper seems to have stopped him. Furthermore, on recent form, he was only 8th of 13 to another of today’s opponents PISAGH PIKE.
Jamie Snowden’s 7-year-old won his last race at Market Rasen by a neck from CASTEL GANDALFO. The handicapper raised him 6 pounds for that win, albeit he’s still on a 5-pound lower mark than his peak.
Nevertheless, I reckon the son of FAMOUS NAME will be better when he’s returned to hurdles, thus we shall look further.
PILLAR OF STEEL won 5/20 of his races to date, and two of them were over this CD. The mare progressed 29 pounds over the past year, and she’s up another three pounds after chasing home BANNISTER.
For the record, the third in that race won the next time out. Nevertheless, I can’t imagine her getting the better of Tom George’s gelding.
After all, the 5-year-old is the one with the most scope, and the manner in which he won suggests there was more in the locker. While the son of Olympic Glory was beaten into 2nd last time out, a couple of mistakes stopped him.
In summary, the race should be run to suit BANNISTER, and conditions are spot-on. Jonathan Burke is likely to wait longer today, and he can put the grey’s weight advantage to good use.
