In the Scottish Premier League, Celtic lost just one of their last 51 matches. Ange Postecoglou’s team are leading the table by 9 points, and they are clear favourites to land the title. Nevertheless, that doesn’t entitle the Hoops to be such short odds when they visit Rangers.

Since Michael Beale returned to become the head coach of the Rangers, the Gers won all four games. The first two ended with 3-2 wins over Hibernian and Aberdeen (away) followed by a 0-1 in Ross County and 3-0 against Motherwell.

After conceding four goals in his first two games in charge, Beale said he was going to prioritise fixing his defence. For the last game, Croatian International Borna Barisic came in as a left-back. Ben Davies returned from injury to play the last 26 minutes against Aberdeen. Subsequently, the centre-back played the full 90 minutes alongside another returning player Connor Goldson.

In a post-match interview, the Rangers coach suggested striker Alfredo Morelos had recovered from a knock. Another player hoping to be back in time is Antonio Colak. However, the likes of Tom Lawrence, Ridvan Yilmaz, Hagi, John Souttar, Steven Davies and Nnamdi Ofoborh are still absent!

As for Celtic, they come into this on the back of winning their last 12 league games. With that said, they have been knocked out of the Champions League and it’s not like they have been annihilating the opposition.

For the record, Postecoglou’s team won four of their last six games by a single goal. Since they were short odds against Livingston (1.09), Aberdeen (1.28), Ross county (1.06) and Motherwell (1.24), they failed to cover the betting handicap.

The Bhoys are with November player of the month Sead Haksabanovic. Anthony Ralston is still injured, whereas David Turnbull is suspended. New signings Alastair Johnston and Yuki Kobayashi will be hoping to be involved, but that is unlikely to be at the start.

Home advantage and an improved defence is the key. We are taking the hosts to make a statement.
