Young Boys top of the league table by a comfortable 10-points. They are the best team in the league by a wide margin, and it’s impossible to see them being stopped. However, with 20 games remaining, the rest of the positions are up for grabs. As it stands, places 2 to 8 were separated by just five points.

Sion took 20 points from 16 games, and of those 8 were taken at home. In fact, the hosts average just 1-point per game at the Stade de Tourbillon, which compares to 1.5 on the road. Also, Sion is the 2nd best traveler but the 2nd worst home team.

In the last round, Sion was on the end of a 2-7 thrashing by St Gallen. Following that embarrassment, Paolo Tramezzani was sacked from his position as head coach. His replacement is former Luzern and Lugano manager Fabio Celestini. This will be the 47-year-olds first match in charge!

Celestini inherited a 29-man squad with an average age of 26.7. For the record, former Manchester City & Liverpool player Mario Balotelli is the team’s top scorer.

By the way, Sion hasn’t made any player trades during January. Nevertheless, coach Celestini will need to find replacements for suspended players Balotelli, Costa, and Saintini. Other than that, only Moubandje is injured for the hosts.

Meanwhile, Lugano has a reputation for taking more points on the road than at home. While that hasn’t been the case this season, there is time to turn around the 12-11 points.

Before the winter break, Lugano won back-to-back fixtures against Witherthur and FC Zurich. In their last away fixture, the visitors drew a 2-2 at 2nd-placed Servette.

Following a slow start to the season, Matteo Croci-Torti’s team has improved. New signing Jhon Espinoza (Chicago Fire) will give the squad more strength in depth, thus there is plenty of reason to be optimistic.

The visitors will be without suspended midfielder Valenzuela. First-choice goal-keeper Saipi is injured, but that shouldn’t be an issue with Sebastian Osigwe filling in. Incidentally, in two recent friendlies, the 28-year-old kept clean sheets. Mahou is the other confirmed absentee, while Bislimi and Durrer are slightly doubts.

In summary, we are expecting the visitors to be hard to beat in away games. While Sion are starting with a new manager, Lugano won’t be planning on giving him an easy start.
