TAUNTON BEST BET – GET ON

3:15 OXYGEN 4/1

In a 5-runner Sedgefield novice hurdle, DECORATED ran the opposition rout. In fact, the 5-year-old won that race by easing down 22 lengths.

As a consequence, Oliver Signy’s 5-year-old was raised 8 pounds in the ratings. The son of NATHANIEL improved race to race, and he won his bumper on a right-handed track.

The soft ground won’t be an issue, and nor will the distance. However, he’s up against stiffer opposition today, and the odds of around 9/4 are unappealing.

I can understand why Jane Williams is returning BALKO SAINT to hurdling! With more focus and a better round of jumping, the 6-year-old would have won a chase at Wincanton.

My issue with the Williams runner is he’s a difficult ride, and his amateur jockey Peter Summers will have his hands full. Lastly, he’s racing from a 6-pound higher mark over hurdles,

Meanwhile, OPERATION MAMA needs to bounce back from a pulled-up effort. Nevertheless, Tom Lacey’s gelding won 3 of his 6 races, and he’s sure to win many more. With that said, he’s a staying chaser in the making, and 2M3F around here isn’t far enough!

Neil Mulholland is saddling last-time winner EARTH KING. The 7-year-old won a novice on his 3rd attempt over hurdles, and he should have more to give. On the downside, an opening mark of 118 is excessive!

For the winner, I’m siding with OXYGEN. While the 5-year-old hasn’t done much in three runs for Venetia Williams’, he’s been dropped an interesting handicap mark.

For the record, the grey starting mark was 120 which compares to today’s 107. If that wasn’t enough, stable apprentice Ned Fox is taking off an additional 7 pounds. Finally, the son of MARTALINE will have optimum conditions, and any additional rain will be a bonus.
