TWO FOR SOUTHWELL – GET ON

SOUTHWELL 1:25 CHOLA EMPIRE 100/30

ANIF must be a joy for his connections. The 9-year-old won 10 of his 48 races, and of those 8/34 came on the All-Weather surface.

However, while this super consistent gelding is running well, he’s a couple of pounds too high! To cut a long story short, Michael Herrington’s gelding should be in the Placepots but winning is something else.

For DOUBLE DEALING to win, a first-time hood must make a positive impact. The other issue with Stuart Williams’s gelding is the extra distance because for me he’s better at 5-6F.

GORAK has mainly been racing at 10F, and last time out he was a disappointing favourite.

MAY NIGHT could be one for the shortlist, it’s just that I prefer the unexposed CHOLA EMPIRE. Jamie Spencer’s mount will appreciate the return to 7F, and Southwell should play to his strengths.

SOUTHWELL 2:35 INTERVENTION 9/2

Despite racing freely, the lightly raced ADEB returned from a 501-day absence to win at Newcastle. Richard Fahey’s 4-year-old was raised 5 pounds for that effort, and he’s open to improvement. Nevertheless, the bounce effect is a concern, and he will need to settle better.

JUSTCALLMEPETE won his last three races, and he’s clearly in the form of his life. In addition, he’s proven over CD, and he’s 5 pounds well in.

For the most part, the short odds favourite is the logical answer, it’s just that I think he’s beatable.

As for the reasons, the son of BATED BREATH is best suited to chasing a strong pace, and this race is likely to be more tactical. Furthermore, he’s giving 5 pounds to INTERVENTION, and Michael Appleby’s gelding was given a poor ride last time out.

Jamie Spencer will take over in the saddle today, and he can be trusted to give the’s sure to give the 6-year-old every chance. Furthermore, he’s 6 pounds better off with the jolly, and that will make a difference.
