VERONIKA KUDERMETOVA vs BARBORA KREJCIKOVA - PICK

VERONIKA KUDERMETOVA vs BARBORA KREJCIKOVA – PICK

WTA DOHA – FIRST-ROUND

Veronika Kudermetove starts the week at rank 11. Incidentally, that is down two places from her career-high rank of 9.

Following last year’s breakthrough season, the Russian started the new campaign with a 6-3. For the record, the 25-year-old took care of business against Danielle Collins, Elise Mertens, Victoria Azarenka, and Andreescu.

On the downside, she was beaten by Liudmila Samsonova, Katie Volynets, and Irina Begu. To say nothing of it, she was a big favourite to beat those last two named opponents.

The biggest issue we have with Kudermetova is her past efforts in Doha, In fact, last year she was beaten in her opening match by Arantxa Rus. Also, she’s been stopped by Garbine Muguruza, Belinda Bencic, and Bernarda Pera, thus her tournament record is 1-4.

Meanwhile, Barbora Krejcikova is currently ranked at 29, which is down from a career-high rank of 2. For the most part, the 27-year-old had a disappointing 2022, although she did have a valid excuse.

Indeed, after picking up a shoulder injury, the Czech player missed 4 months of the season. When she returned in time for the grass season, something wasn’t right.

To cut a long story short, Krejcikova bounced back to win Tallinn. While that was just a WTA250, she did at least beat Ajla Tomljanovic, Marta Kostyuk, Beatriz Haddad Maia, and Belinda Bencic. Subsequently, Barbora won the following tournament in Ostrava, with Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina being amongst her victims.

As for the new season, Krejcikova did at least make the 4th round of the Australian Open. And, while she was beaten in Dubai, she made Samsonova fight hard for the win!

Consequently, we trust the Czech player! She’s pragmatic in that she takes what’s on offer, and having a real trier satisfies our needs!
