WESTERLO vs CERCLEE BRUGGE – BETTING PICK
BELGIUM JUPILER LEAGUE
During the main season, Westerlo won both fixtures against Cerclee Brugge.
The game in this stadium was the first of the campaign, and it ended 2-0 for the then-newly promoted Westerlo. Incidentally, the reverse match was played on the 7th of January and a 6th-minute penalty was the difference!
For the most part, De Kemphanen has outperformed expectations. The owners can take credit for bringing in experienced players and supporting a 27-man squad.
As for current form, Westerlo lost (3-1) their last game to Gent. After leading at half-time, De Kemphanen made the mistake of dropping deep and allowing their opponents to gather momentum! The punishment was conceding two quick goals on 52 and 55 minutes with another following on 88 minutes.
While the hosts failed to win any of their last five fixtures, they did at least draw with Club Brugge and Anderlecht. We can also point to the fact that they are better at the Het Kuipje, and they beat Royale Union (4-2) and Anderlecht in this stadium.
Incidentally, while coach Jonas De Rock is without 4 players, none of those missing are deal breakers!
As for Cerclee Brugge, they had a terrible start to the season. In fact, at one stage the Green/Black were bottom of the league table.
The turning point for the visitors came after the appointment of Miron Muslic. On that note, under the new boss, Cerclee won 7 of their next nine games!
At one stage of the season, Muslic’s men reached 5th place in the table. However, 2023 started with back-to-back defeats, and Cerclee could only win two of their next nine games.
To conclude, Cerclee should not be the betting favorite! Home advantage is a massive incentive to bet the hosts and the other is knowing they won both season fixtures!
