 12:43 MORIKO DE VASSY 100/30

The Donald McCain-trained MINELLA PLUS is 2/2 over fences. However, the two races he won were just three-runner affairs! To add some perspective, the five-year-old was odds of 1/2 and 6/5 for those wins. Furthermore, last time out he benefitted from his main rival slipping badly, and he’s 2 pounds higher today.

While Brian Hughes is taking over in the saddle, this is a better race than the ones he won!  On his chasing debut, ZACONY REBEL won a 4-runner race at Fontwell. However, he was the ‘’even-money’’ favourite to beat moderate opponents, and the 2nd was twice beaten since.

While Toby Lawes’s gelding can improve further, he will find it harder from a 5-pound higher mark. Also, the way he jumps suggests a right-handed track would suit him better, and these fences will test the GETAWAY son.

NERO ROCK will win more races, but it would be disappointing to see him win this. After all, the top weight is thoroughly exposed, and a mark of 131 is too much!

NOTLONGTILLMAY is a lightly raced Novice hurdle winner. Since last running, the owners switched the 6-year-old from Chris Gordon to L J Morgan. While we don’t know the story behind that move, he’s in good hands!

Nevertheless, while he should run well, I’m with MORIKO DE VASSY. At five years of age, Tom Symond’s gelding is the youngest runner in the field.

The son of COKORIKO is the type to make a much better chaser, and he comes from a stable in the winners. Daryl Jacob is a good booking, and he won both his seasonal debut races!
