2:32 KAUTO THE KING 4/1
Despite being supported in the early market, BALKO SAINT isn’t running well enough to be considered. While Jane Williams’ 8-year-old is a course winner, finishing 6th/13 to SKINFLINT suggests he’s below his best.
As for NEVILLE’S CROSS, he’s been struggling for a while now. Tom Lacey’s gelding was pulled up in two of his last four races, and in the others, he was beaten 33L and 40L. Despite a falling mark and improvement in the stables form, it is hard to envisage this fella winning.
Meanwhile, Paul Nicholls saddles the betting favorite FLIC OU VAYOU. The 9-year-old won 7 of his 26 races, and he’s 2 from 8 over fences. Nevertheless, he’s not the bravest of jumpers, and he’s actually 2 pounds higher over the bigger obstacles. Following a below-expectations run at Wetherby, the son of Kapgarde’s favourite tag is debatable.
The well-supported FLAGRANT DELITIEP likes it here, and he’s twice finished 2nd in this race. At his best, Robert Walford’s runner is nicely treated and capable of winning a race like this. However, recent form suggests that the 8-year-old has something to prove, and as such he’s no 5/2 shot.
While I’m not a big fan of his stable, Joe Tizzard’s KAUTO THE KING is the best alternative. I would mark up his last run for two reasons, with the first being he was badly hampered and always playing catch-up. Secondly, that race was over two miles, and he’s better over this distance.
In any case, the selection loves it at this track, and he’s been dropped to a winnable mark. Harry Kimber taking off three pounds is a positive, and so is receiving 14 pounds from the jolly.
