ARGENTINA 6.60 (4 points)

There is plenty of depth to the Argentina squad, and moreover, they have the right balance.

For the record, Argentina enter this tournament on the back of 35 games without defeat, which included winning Copa America.

Since the last World Cup, the likes of Gonzalo Montiel, Lisandro Martinez, and Cristian Romero have strengthened the team.

With opponents doubling up on Messi, the Argentine playmakers should be able to get easy targets!

What we particularly like about Argentina is they cover all aspects of the game. In short, we put them ahead of Brazil, and they are our main tournament pick.

PORTUGAL 17.00 (1 point)

It is prudent to cover with a European team, and in our opinion, that should be Portugal.

While an argument could be made for the Netherlands, they have a history of succumbing to pressure.

Germany is traditionally a tournament team, but the current squad is nothing special. While Hansi Flick’s men will try, it’s hard to see them making the later stages of the WC.

There is no doubt about it, Belgium has talented players. Also, they are particularly good at beating up the smaller teams. However, when push comes to shove, the Red Devils are known to bottle it. Lastly, it’s a concern when the likes of Lukaku are struggling for match fitness.

Meanwhile, the thought of England playing on the big stage is scary. While the Three Lions have enough talent, Gareth Southgate’s men continue to come up short. Furthermore, players from the EPL had a hard schedule, and they are likely to fade.

As for Spain, they remind us of a horse who trains well at home but doesn’t produce it on the track. All this petty patty football looks nice, but it doesn’t deliver the happy ending!

Back in Portugal, they have the most in-depth squad in Europe. Furthermore, they are no longer reliant on Christiano Ronaldo, albeit opposing defenses show him too much respect. Whether Fernando Santos is the right coach is questionable. Nevertheless, Portugal has the balance and plenty of cover!

DENMARK wins group D – 2 points @ 3.75

In what looks like a two-horse race, we are taking Denmark to finish ahead of France. We can imagine a more direct team like the Danish Dynamite doing a better job on teams in Tunisia and Australia. If that is the case, a draw with France would be good enough to land the top spot.

ECUADOR to qualify from Group A – 3 points @ 2.20

We fancy Ecuador to make it tough on the Netherlands, and they can outwit a Senegal that is likely to be without Sadio Mane. We have seen enough of Ecuador to know they are resolute in defense, and as opponents start to tire they kick into top gear.
