ANNA BLINKOVA vs EMINA BEKTAS

There are no previous head-to-head meetings to consider. In her only visit here, Anna Blinkova defeated Greetje Minnen before losing to Veronica Kudermetova. Meanwhile, 98th-ranked Emina Bektas reached last season’s quarter-finals by winning four of her five matches, eventually being eliminated by the tournament winner, Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Going back to 2015, 55th-ranked Blinkova was a finalist at Wimbledon Juniors. However, none of the players she beat there, including the winner Sofya Zhuk (career-high rank of 116), made a significant mark in professional tennis. Blinkova, now 25, has a positive win rate on grass (56.3%), though it’s lower than her overall average. She excels indoors, where she boasts a 66% win rate.

Blinkova arrives in Nottingham with a moderate 9-14 record for the year, having won only two of her last ten matches. To her credit, those victories were against capable players Sorana Cirstea and Diane Parry. However, she also lost five matches to players ranked outside the top 100.

Bektas comes to Nottingham with a 15-12 record for the year, including a recent tournament win on the carpet at W75 Kurume. The 31-year-old American typically competes in lower-tier tournaments but has a solid 63% win rate on grass. In 2023, she won 80% of her grass-court matches, with Shuai Zhang among her victories.

Bektas began the grass season with a first-round defeat in Surbiton but pushed Ajla Tomljanovic to the distance. Notably, she had only a few days of grass-court training before that match and now has had another week to prepare.

IN SUMMARY

Being a good doubles player is a good attribute for playing on grass. Emina is solid at the net, and she’s got the game for this surface. Reaching the QF of last year’s tournament is proof of concept, and she’s more consistent than her opponent. Given her strong recent form, we are backing the more reliable Bektas to win.
