RARE SHARE: TODAY’S TOP HORSE RACING TIPS. Since it’s a big raceday, I’ve decided to share some of my bets. With the World Cup & Wimbledon taking centre stage, I haven’t really had much time to write any horse racing previews for the website. Also, it’s all about the pecking order. While racing is my “big thing”, getting money down is becoming increasingly difficult. I could share a few stories, but it’s probably best if I don’t!!

NEWMARKET 13:50 – POINT OF VIEW 11/4

The Derby form isn’t working out, so I’m not going to get excited about the chance of ALDERMAN. As for NIL BUA GAN DUA, the best thing I can say is that he’s consistent. However, at the same time, he’s exposed and lacks scope.

GALIYAN was well supported to win at Ascot, but after having every chance he finished behind two of the runners in this race. One of them was Charlie Appleby-trained DEL MARO, who finished a nose behind the winner, LIMESTONE. On that occasion, William Buick held up the son of CAMELOT and decided to stick to the inside when asking him to close. However, despite getting a clear run and having the rail to help, he was just outpointed by the winner.

In that same race, POINT OF VIEW finished a 1½-length fourth. James Doyle’s mount seemed to get lit up coming out of the stalls, and at the first bend he had to snatch him up after running onto the heels of the horse in front. The son of FRANKEL switched wide turning for home and was momentarily outpaced before staying on strongly towards the finish.

At Ascot, I thought DEL MARO got the optimum run, while POINT OF VIEW had a couple of things go against him. If the Gosdens’ three-times-raced colt learns from that experience, he should be capable of extracting his revenge.

NEWMARKET 15:00 – CALICO BLUE 7/1

This three-year-old handicap is both competitive and full of in-form runners. At the head of the betting is William Haggas-trained THUNDER CALL, the winner of both his races this year. The son of PINATUBO was given a nice ride by Zac Lloyd to win a 22-runner handicap at York by a comfortable half-length, for which he’s been raised 6lb. Since he’s an improver, he’s entitled to be favourite and should be close at the finish.

MAN OF VISION should be better suited by this track compared to York, where he finished ninth behind THUNDER CALL. Off 7lb better terms, he’s entitled to close the gap on the winner. However, the grey gelding races like he needs seven furlongs.

I could mention quite a few in this race that have a chance of placing, but for the winner I’m not looking any further than CALICO BLUE. The son of CALYX comes into this on the back of finishing fourth of 27 at Ascot, where he stayed on strongly, suggesting that another furlong would have suited him better. Since that’s the scenario today, the Roger Varian-trained colt should improve and, hopefully, collect the prize.

DONCASTER 14:45 – ACCORDING TO MARK 11/2

Joseph Patrick O’Brien has sent over COUNT BEZUKHOV for this Class 2 St Leger Trial. Based on his win at the Curragh, the son of WOOTTON BASSETT can be rated around 84 on Irish form. Since he’s burdened with a 6lb penalty, he’ll need to improve again.

My issue with the Andrew Balding-trained HATEEN is that he’s a bit one-paced. In my experience, horses like that are always vulnerable to a finisher. POKER will find this level easier than the Derby, but he’s still got something to prove. Whether first-time cheekpieces can bring about improvement in BRAVE HUNTER remains to be seen. It’s just that, based on his form, he appears to be fully exposed.

Since his last run, Edward Bethell has had ACCORDING TO MARK gelded. On his latest start, the gelding didn’t make much of an effort, so hopefully the operation has done its job and he can now fully focus on racing. With the trainer in great form and Daniel Tudhope booked, he’s worth chancing.

DONCASTER 15:20 – NANNY PARK 9/4

GOLDEN FLAME was an easy winner under today’s jockey at Ffos Las, and he’s only 4lb higher in the handicap. That said, it was a weak race that he won, and it’s not like the eight-year-old is about to improve.

TWIGHLIGHT SAFARI did offer a bit of encouragement last time out, but his overall profile suggests he’s still got plenty to prove. As for LORDSBRIDGE GREY, he’s not bred for this sort of trip, nor does he run like a stayer.

From what I’m seeing, the winning door is wide ajar for Billy Loughnane-ridden NANNY PARK. The Sara Ender-trained filly receives weight from the other three, which is always a positive in a small field. And while she hasn’t won for 20 months, her recent third of six at Doncaster was encouraging. One thing is certain: the daughter of GOLDEN HORN will appreciate the fast ground, and the extra distance is another positive.
