Round 3: World Cup Betting Previews & Picks
Canada vs Switzerland
The top two sides in Group L go head-to-head in a blockbuster final matchday to decide who wins the group. As it stands, Canada hold the top spot courtesy of a superior goal difference, meaning the Swiss must secure a victory if they want to leapfrog them into first place. Canada’s relentless, high-energy style was on full display in their emphatic 6-0 thrashing of Qatar. While Jesse Marsch’s men certainly benefited from their opponents picking up two red cards, the Canadians looked incredibly sharp in possession and clearly love to dictate the tempo.
Switzerland have rebounded beautifully from an unfortunate opening-round draw against Qatar, dismantling Bosnia 4-1 in their second match. Murat Yakin’s men are growing into this tournament perfectly, and like Canada, they are at their absolute best when playing on the front foot. With Canada needing to defend their goal-difference advantage and Switzerland forced to chase all three points, this has all the makings of an end-to-end transitional war. Neither side will back down, and at a highly generous plus-money price, the market is completely discounting the attacking efficiency on display.

Germany vs Ecuador
It is officially a wrap for Germany, who have already guaranteed themselves the top spot in the group. While the Nationalelf struggled heavily to break down a resilient Ivory Coast side last time out, they ultimately got over the line courtesy of a dramatic extra-time winner. Despite the victory, Julian Nagelsmann’s side has hardly set the world on fire, exposing a somewhat limited squad depth. With qualification and seeding locked down, Nagelsmann is fully expected to rotate heavily and rest key personnel for the knockout rounds.
This opens a massive door for Ecuador, who must win this match to secure qualification. They enter this fixture on the back of a frustrating 0-0 draw against tournament minnows Curaçao. While the South Americans deserve criticism for their wasteful finishing, the underlying metrics tell a completely different story: racking up 27 shots with 15 on target proves their attacking build-up was excellent. Facing a heavily rotated, unmotivated German side, Ecuador possess the tools to pull off an upset if they play with belief. We will take the safety net of the double chance at a choice price.
- BET: Ecuador +0.5 (Asian Handicap / Double Chance)
- ODDS: 2.00
Mexico vs Czech Republic
Mexico have already taken care of business, guaranteeing themselves the top spot in the group before the final matchday. However, Los Tri have been far from convincing as tournament hosts, grinding out uninspired, low-tempo victories over South Africa (2-0) and South Korea (1-0). No matter how much you analyze this Mexican side, they display glaring technical limitations and a lack of fluid creativity in the final third of the pitch. They are content to sit on leads rather than blow teams away.
The exact same lack of attacking identity applies to the Czech Republic, who completely failed to hold off South Africa in a damaging Round 2 defeat. The Czech squad severely lacks natural, elite goal-scorers who can create something out of nothing. On a slow, heavy pitch that has consistently hindered quick passing movements throughout this tournament, breaking down a compact, low-block Mexican defensive unit is going to be an incredibly tall order for them. Expect a highly tactical, low-risk affair dominated by mid-block positioning. The under is the only logical position here.

Japan vs Sweden
Our two biggest premium positions of this tournament have both landed courtesy of Japan. In the opening round, we backed them on the double chance against the Netherlands, which resulted in a thoroughly deserved 2-2 draw. They followed that up by thrashing Tunisia 4-0, comfortably covering our -1 Asian Handicap ticket. That dominant performance proved Japan are peaking at the perfect time. They are a high-octane, relentless football team whose intense pressing engine can completely suffocate any opposition line.
Sweden, on the other hand, look incredibly fragile. They started well by beating Tunisia 5-1, but were subsequently dismantled by the exact same 5-1 scoreline against the Netherlands. While Graham Potter’s men didn’t entirely deserve a four-goal thrashing—a two-goal margin would have been a fairer reflection—their structural defensive flaws were laid completely bare. Sweden struggle immensely when turned around by quick, technical combinations, which happens to be Japan’s greatest strength. The Blue Samurai are a live data darling right now, and they should comfortably dictate this match from the opening whistle.

Australia vs Paraguay
Australia kicked off their campaign with a 2-0 victory over Turkey. Despite being heavily outplayed and surrendering the bulk of possession, the Socceroos were hyper-efficient, scoring two lovely goals against the run of play. They were on the wrong end of variance in their second match, falling 2-0 to the USA via an unfortunate own goal and a heavily deflected scramble. To be fair, Australia were unlucky against the Americans, and sitting on three points at this stage is still a better return than most pundits expected.
Paraguay dropped their opener 4-1 to the USA, but bounced back like true professionals to beat Turkey. Crucially, the South Americans had to play the entire second half with ten men, putting on an absolute clinic in defensive resilience. When you factor in that Paraguay defeated both Argentina and Colombia during a grueling qualifying campaign, their high-level pedigree is undeniable. Anchored by a rock-solid defensive line and spearheaded by the explosive Julio Enciso in attack, they are the structurally superior team. We will back Paraguay here, utilizing the Draw No Bet market to fully protect our stake.
- BET: Paraguay +0 (Draw No Bet)
- ODDS: 1.71
