MARKET RASEN 16:25 – FANE COURT (11/2)
Since our National Hunt bets will always outperform the market, let me share one from today’s card at Market Rasen!
The biggest positive I can see with GALWAY REEL is changing from the stable of Ian Williams to Olly Murphy. Interestingly, the 7-year-old won his only race on this track, albeit from a 3-pound lower mark than he’s set to carry today. My issues with the gelding are he’s not particularly well handicapped, he’s only won 1 of his 20 races, and he was put up 3 pounds for finishing 2nd last time out. And my best reason for looking elsewhere is odds of 6/4—they are strictly based on his new trainer getting more out of him!
HUCKLEBERRY STING was well placed to win three of his 7 chase races during the summer. However, his mark increased from 74 to 98 during that time. To cut a long story short, the current 2nd favourite appears to have reached his limit!
RIBEYE should be included in place-only bets, but I don’t get the feeling that he will be winning! HARDY BUCK tends to struggle to win, meaning the only box he ticks is a low weight!
Let’s chance lightly raced FANE COURT, who should improve now that he’s chasing. On November 25th, 2025, the 8-year-old was able to win a Point-to-Point from a next-time-out winner. And if we turn the clock back two races to Worcester on July 16th, he was only just touched off by a nose in a handicap hurdle. The ground will be fine, Lewis Stones takes off a valuable 3 pounds, and at odds of 11/2 he’s a working man’s price!

NEWMARKET 13:55 – BURNING UP (7/2)
Charlie Appleby had 4 winners from his last 5 runners, and his 5-year strike rate with 2-year-olds sits at a lofty 35%. The trainer is saddling FIRST LAW in this race, an unbeaten two-times winner who landed a Listed race last time out. The TOO DARN HOT colt is rated a solid 101 by the assessor, and he’s got the scope to improve a little more.
Nevertheless, I want to take him on with his half-brother, namely BURNING UP. The Karl Burke-trained colt won both his races at Haydock on both good and soft ground. He’s clearly got plenty of stamina, which suggests he should be even better suited by racing at Newmarket, and with more improvement to come he’s the one!
Both HAFFNER and QUEST FOR STARS have achieved higher ratings; it’s just that both have shown some type of limitation!
NEWMARKET 14:27 – SENORITA BONITA (2/1)
107-rated LIBERTANGO won 3 of her 4 races, including a Group 2 at York last time out. The George Boughey-trained daughter of NO NAY NEVER will surely win more races at the right level, but she’s up against it here!
The Aidan O’Brien-trained SUN GODDESS won 5 of her 6 races, and two of them were Group 1s at the Curragh. Interestingly, she was beaten at Ascot by LIBERTANGO, but to be fair she has improved significantly since then. After winning her last race by an easy 6.5L, the Irish raider is rated a lofty 119, which makes her the one to beat!
With that said, I’m taking the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained SENORITA BONITA to beat the favourite. The 117-rated daughter of STARSPANGLEDBANNER beat LIBERTANGO at Newmarket, and last time out she was super impressive when landing a Group 1 in Deauville. Since she’s clearly at the top of her game and improving by the race, taking Oisin Murphy’s mount is the right thing to do!
