CURRAGH 14:35 – SOUL LOVE (5/2)

Aidan O’Brien-trained BRUSSELS hasn’t won since his debut (13 runs back). While this is easier than some of his recent assignments, he’s thoroughly beatable. As for ROYAL BEAN CENTER, she does at least benefit from the filly’s allowance. However, while she has won three races, none of them came at this level.

I don’t get the impression that POWER BLUE needs this drop to 6 furlongs. The 3-year-old has been running over 7F to a mile, and he’s usually seen staying on over the shorter of those distances. With that said, the nail in the coffin is he’s giving 8 pounds to Karl Burke-trained filly SOUL LOVE. The 4-time winner is still improving, and she’s got conditions completely to suit!

EPSOM 15:22 – SEEKING CHARLES (4/1)

With GORDON GREY and NIBRAS GOLD both being confirmed front-runners, this race should be run at a strong pace. Although, I should mention that the George Baker-trained GORDON GREY runs his best races at this track. With that said, both would have far better chances if the other wasn’t in the field!

The suspected strong pace should also take care of FOX AVATOR, a 5-year-old gelding who is better at 10 furlongs. I’m thinking the same comment applies to TIGER, and to be honest I’m no fan of runners from the Ian Williams stable. On the other hand, MARNIER usually races over 2 miles, suggesting he’s likely to be outpaced.

SEEKING CHARLES won a recent course and distance amateur race by an easy 6 lengths. In his two previous races, he was only just outpointed late on after leading for most of the way. However, in his last race, his then jockey was happy to take a lead before producing him to lead at the 2-furlong marker, and from then on it was name the winning distance. To cut a long story short, expect the mount of James Davies to utilize similar tactics and follow up under an 8-pound penalty!

EPSOM 16:32 – THANOS (9/2)

My issue with CROWN OFFICER is he doesn’t seem to have an established distance. Also, the William Haggas-trained gelding was beaten at odds of 2/1 and 11/10 in his last two races, suggesting he’s far too disappointing to touch at short odds.

Before being badly beaten at Ripon (by 28 lengths), SWIPED had won 3 of his last 4 races. The Ralph Beckett-trained son of TOO DARN HOT is better than that performance, it’s just that he is now firmly in the grip of the handicapper.

I’m siding with THANOS, who has already proven he can handle an undulating track (at Lingfield). The Harry Charlton-trained gelding came good on his 7th start and has now won 3 of his last 4 races since putting on cheekpieces. The son of LOPE Y FERNANDEZ is still improving faster than the handicapper can catch him!
