THREE HIGH-VALUE RACING PICKS ON SUNDAY

THREE HIGH-VALUE RACING PICKS ON SUNDAY.

While Saturday is the big racing day, Sunday is often where the real trading value hides. It’s much easier to work through 20 race rather than 50+. This afternoon’s cards at Stratford and Redcar have thrown up some cracking betting angles. We’ve done the heavy lifting to unearth three selections that are overpriced.

Here is where our money is landing.

THREE HIGH-VALUE RACING PICKS ON SUNDAY

STRATFORD 14:48 – GETASUPERSTAR (7/2)

The standard in this handicap hurdle is admittedly nothing to write home about, but the three sitting at the top of the market are all arriving in decent nick. Short-priced favourite Stellarmasterpiece is a major threat having won her last two over this course and distance on identical quick ground. However, the handicapper hit her with an eight-pound rise for that latest victory, meaning she has to find another gear today.

Northern Rose looks attractive on paper after being narrowly touched off over two miles here last time out. But a quick look at the history books reveals she is entirely winless in 33 lifetime starts, frequently letting punters down as the market leader. She is the quintessential type to take on.

Instead, chance GETASUPERSTAR. After securing back-to-back victories, he ran a highly respectable third of seven last time out. Reverting to smaller obstacles from a three-pound lower mark looks like a brilliant piece of placement by the yard. The fast ground won’t bother him, Charlie Hammond knows him inside out, and he carries top weight precisely because he is the class act in the field.

STRATFORD 16:33 – EAST EAGLE (9/2)

He Is A Cracker arrives having scored over fences last time out, a discipline where he boasts a highly respectable three wins from nine starts. Yet, despite sitting on a ten-pound lower mark over timber, the veteran ten-year-old has managed just a single victory from twelve starts over hurdles. Simply put, he is a much better chaser and can be safely passed over here.

Market leader Artiste D’Ainay commands plenty of respect. This in-form eight-year-old has thrived since switching back from the point-to-point ranks to rules racing, and the transition back to hurdles allows her to compete off the exact same mark as her recent chase victory. Luna Run also enters calculations following a recent win under today’s seven-pound claimer Megan Fox, earning a five-pound penalty in the process. Both mares are in fine fettle and should go well.

However, the real value lies with the outsider of the party, EAST EAGLE. The Mike Somersby-trained six-year-old saves her absolute best performances for this track and has slipped back down to an incredibly lenient handicap mark. Expect a massive bounce-back showing today.

REDCAR 15:33 – NYMAN (8/1)

Amidst The Chaos is clearly firing on all cylinders, and if he manages to settle better at the head of affairs, he will take some catching. The only fly in the ointment is that the Nigel Tinkler four-year-old is far too short in the betting. Yaffaar ticks plenty of boxes as a course-and-distance winner who relishes top of the ground, while Titainium arrives with plenty to prove and Criminal Store looks a touch high in the weights.

Bowood has plenty of ability, but his hold-up running style is a massive disadvantage on a track like Redcar that rarely favours those coming from deep. Rajapour is as tough as boots, and a mark of 71 is undeniably fair, but he is hardly prolific and looks far more likely to hit the frame than find the winner’s enclosure.

The value play is undoubtedly NYMAN. He finished his last race with a pronounced nosebleed, completely explaining that poor performance. Prior to that, he put in a massive shift in a highly competitive York handicap, suggesting he will thoroughly appreciate this drop into calmer waters. The Roger Fell-trained four-year-old does his best work for Joanna Mason, and he is set to run off a mark two pounds lower than his last winning rating.
