THREE QUALITY BETTING PREVIEWS & TIPS AT TODAYS NEWMARKET

NEWMARKET 13:15 – ETISSA (9/2)

ARISAIG is for the most part consistent, but she doesn’t make a habit out of winning. In fact, we have to go back two years and 18 runs since she last got her head in front. Charlie Johnston’s 5yo is on the same mark as last year when finishing 3rd, but she simply doesn’t arrive in the same nick today!

William Haggas has his string in excellent form, and the local trainer saddles the current favourite ALOBAYYAH. The lightly raced filly won a 24-runner handicap at Ascot, suggesting she is best suited by a big field. While the stiff track will suit, a 6 lb penalty stopped the 4yo from following up last time out. To cut a long story short, she needs to improve significantly to win off this current mark!

ETISSA is the one for me! Her recent fourth in a Longchamp Listed race was a solid effort, especially considering she finished strongly after taking a pull early on. From what we witnessed, she handled the easier ground (which her breeding suggests she wants) and gave every impression she would be best suited by a strongly run race. Oisin Murphy is a master at getting his mounts settled, and that will be the key to taking this handy prize!

NEWMARKET 13:50 – COEDENA (4/1)

The form of the Munich race where COEDENA finished 6th is rock-solid. For those who don’t know, the winner HOTAZHELL followed up by winning the Irish Group 1 Champion Stakes, with the 3rd from Munich, WIMBLEDON HAWKEYE, finishing runner-up in Ireland. Since then, the 2nd that day, TIMEFORSHOWCASING, went on to finish 3rd in a Deauville Group 1, and the 9th, SILAWI, finished 2nd last time out at Windsor.

The Edward Bethell-trained 4yo is a strong stayer who needed a longer distance than the 10F she got in Munich. Having only run 4 times this season, the daughter of KING OF CHANGE arrives fresh and gets her favoured ground. Coming from a stable in red-hot form, there is plenty of reason to believe she’s the one to beat!

While some of the others have the credentials to go well, my mind is completely made up!

NEWMARKET 14:25 – LIGHT OF DAWN (4/1)

SPIRITED GESTURE could only win her two races easily. John & Thady Gosden’s daughter of KINGMAN clearly has potential, but the simple fact is she’s only rated 88. Suffice to say, bridging the gap between landing odds of 1/6 in a Newcastle maiden and stepping into Group 2 company is a massive jump, making current odds of 2/1 look far too short!

SPEED OF SOUND is going the right way, but based on what we have seen to date she’s not at this level. SUGAR YES PLEASE showed promise when finishing 4th in a Newbury maiden, and then won her next race at the same track. While that didn’t immediately scream Group 3, the Eve Johnson Houghton-trained filly landed odds of 11/1 when beating NUIT D’ECLAIR last time out. That was a massive step forward, suggesting she has a puncher’s chance!

While the aforementioned have potential, I’m siding with LIGHT OF DAWN. The daughter of SHOWCASING looked the real deal when winning on debut, and she followed up with an excellent 3rd of 25 behind LIBERTANGO in a Group 3 at Ascot before disappointing a little in Deauville. Last time out, Karl Burke’s inmate showed her best form to date when beating EABHA by a comfortable 1.25 lengths, which coincided with stepping up in trip. In my analytical opinion, that’s the best form on offer in this line-up!
