ASCOT 5:30 WHENTHEDEALISDONE 4/1

I said Paul Cole had missed a trick by not using the 7-pound claim of Mohammed Tabti at Goodwood. Since he was only beaten half a length, I feel like that comment was justified. The trainer has reinstalled the youngster today, but the new issue is dropping back in distance.

While Ascot is a stiff five furlongs, the son of STARSPANGLEDBANNER did all his winning at 6F. Furthermore, he’s never won off a mark of 87, and this is a better race than he contested.

WATER OF LEITH is down from the north, and despite being exposed he’s improved with each race this season. Jim Goldie is trying to help the 4-year-old by giving the mount to 5-pound claimer Amie Waugh.

However, I would prefer a senior jockey to get the ride over this short distance. Moreover, he’s set to carry a pound more than his official handicap!

CELSIUS likes it here, and he knows how to win. In fact, Tom Clover’s 6-year-old won 7 of his 25 races, and one of them was just two races back. Nevertheless, he’s never won off a mark of 87, and he did run poorly last time out.

CAIRNGORM hasn’t been getting beaten far, and he’s capable of being competitive in a race of this nature. For the most part, he’s well handicapped and capable of finishing in the top three.

For the winner, I won’t be looking any further than Roger Teal’s 4-year-old WHENTHEDEALISDONE. The son of DARK ANGEL is 3 pounds below his last winning mark, and he showed signs of returning to form last time out.

Daniel Tudhope is a good jockey booking, and he should be able to get the cover he needs. Lastly, the bigger field will suit, and being drawn in stall 8 gives his jockey options.
