BIG BETTING DAY – 8/1 SHOT
LEICESTER 1:40 BAY OF NAPLES 8/1 (WON)
For the most part, NONSUCH LAD became disappointing. While he won a race at this time last year, it was only by a nose. Furthermore, he’s better on easy ground and easy to take on!
I will be surprised if INVERINATE needs the extra distance at a stiff track like this! MR ZEE ticks all but one box, and that negative is a mark of 62.
TWIGHLIGHT GUEST came to win his last race, but he was worried out of it! Suffice to say, a 5-pound rise won’t help his cause, and he might prefer an all-weather surface.
It is no surprise to see HAAF A DIAMOND at the head of the betting market. After all, the three-year-old won at the track, and it was for today’s jockey. However, Alec Volkhansky won’t be allowed his 5-pound claim today, and he’s unproven at this longer distance.
The opportunity for a punt at bigger odds is obvious, but it won’t be with ICONIQUE. While Rebecca Menzies’ mare should be competitive for a place, she’s not the type to win.
FILLYFUDGE was disappointing in her last race, and she would benefit from a switch back to hurdles.
As for my idea of the winner, it’s got to be BAY OF NAPLES. While the 7-year-old is yet to win on turf, he ran well on the surface last time out. Furthermore, he’s 5 pounds lower in this sphere, and he’s run well at Leicester.
The son of EXCEED AND EXCEL comes from an in-form stable, and he will be best served by a strong pace at 10F. Finally, Connor Planas is an excellent booking, and underfoot conditions will suit you best!
