COURSE & DISTANCE SPECIALIST: 5 POUNDS BETTER AT BRIGHTON

COURSE & DISTANCE SPECIALIST: 5 POUNDS BETTER AT BRIGHTON

2:15 SECRET HANDSHEIKH 9/2

This is a fairly average race, with the top weight rated at 64. Despite the eight runners being fully exposed, we like this one. Here’s my analysis of the 2.15 at Brighton;

At 13 years old, BOOM THE GROOM is in his final year of racing. Luke Morris is booked to ride Tony Carroll’s veteran, but despite being a 13-time winner he is past his prime.

HAVEAGOBEAU is a pound out of the handicap, and Jim Boyle’s 8-year-old has yet to place. While Saffie Osborne will give MOKAATIL every chance, it’s hard to see Ian Williams’ gelding winning. James Fanshawe’s 4-year-old filly ALPINE GIRL remains a difficult character despite his stable’s excellent form.

BATCHELOR BOY, a course and distance winner, won two races back at Yarmouth but failed to replicate that effort in his next race. The 7-year-old will need to rebound

CABEZA DE LLAVE is one to include in placepot bets. Michael Attwater’s 5-year-old missed the break in his last two starts but wasn’t far behind. The son of PEARL SECRET won on his only visit to this track and is fairly treated. With Harry Burns aboard, he should be competitive

JAQUELINA carries a 5-pound penalty after her recent course and distance win, where she only narrowly secured victory. Had she waited to be re-assessed, her rating increase would have been lower, so the penalty might be her undoing.

My tip for the winner is SECRET HANDSHEIKH! John Gallagher’s 6-year-old performs 5 pounds better at this course and is back down to a winning mark, a pound lower than when he won here in September 2023. He showed promise over this course and distance two races back. Christian Howarth takes off a valuable three pounds, and conditions are ideal for a strong performance.
