DONNA VEKIC vs MAYAR SHERIF – BETTING TIP
At her best in 2019, Donna Vekic peaked at a career-high rank of 19. However, following her QF in the US Open, the form of the Croatian went south!
For the record, in 2020, Vekic missed 6 months of the season and ended with an 8/11, and a year later 19/16. Nevertheless, her current YTD is 16/11, and from May onwards her game started to improve.
The issue with a dropping rank is having to play qualifiers, and that was the case in Paris, Birmingham and Eastbourne. On a positive note, she made it through to the main round of those tournaments and reached the QF of Birmingham.
As it stands, the 26-year-old is up at rank 86. In 2018, she beat Linette and Zheng on the way to the final of this tournament.
While Vekic is best described as an all-rounder, her win ratio (59.4%) is best on this surface. Finally, since 2019 she’s beaten the likes of Sabalenka, Kanepi, Cornet, Sharapova, Azarenka and Konta on hard courts.
Meanwhile, Mayar Sherif is returning from a 9 week’s break. The last time we saw the pride of Egyptian tennis was in the first round of the French Open. She won that match against Marta Kostyuk, but a foot injury meant she had to withdraw from the tournament.
Consequently, Sherif won 74% of her matches on clay, and that compares to just 56.3% on hard court. While that number is on a par with her opponent, most of those wins came at lower grade (W25) tournaments.
Finally, the 26-year-old is just 1/8 on this year’s hard courts, and she’s going to need matches!
