EMMA RADUCANU vs BEATRIZ HADDAD MAIA – PREVIEW
WTA INDIAN WELLS
During her match against Magda Linette, it was noticeable that Emma Raducanu asked to talk to the doctor. However, she didn’t need a medical timeout, and her question was in regard to her recent bout of tonsillitis.
The Brit said she hadn’t felt physically great this week, but she wouldn’t complain. In fact, in her post-match press interview, Raducanu suggested that feeling under the weather was a driving factor!
What we like about Emma is she’s tactically aware, and her game is becoming even more aggressive! On that note, the way she was striking the ball against both Danka Kovinic and Magda Linette was impressive!
To cut a long story short, Raducanu is peaking at the right time. Having an extra two days to recover is a good thing, and she can only be fitter and wiser for the challenge ahead.
Over the past two years, Beatriz Haddad Maia worked her way from ITF player to a career-high rank of 12. As it stands, the Brazilian is ranked just one place lower at 13.
In 2022, the 26-year-old won tournaments in St Malo, Nottingham, and Birmingham. However, her best performance of the year was reaching the final of Toronto. To reach the final of that $2.5M tournament, she beat top players such as Iga Swiatek, Belinda Bencic, and Karolina Pliskova.
The Brazilian is 10-5 this year, and she recently made the QF of Adelaide and the SF of Abu Dhabi. Haddad Maia managed to beat Daria Kasatkina, Badosa Gibert, and Elena Rybakina, but she was knocked out of the first round of Dubai.
In her first match here, Beatriz made heavy weather out of beating Katerina Siniakova. Since her opponent was serving for the match at 5/3, she was fortunate to get back in the match!
If Emma can build on her first two wins, she’s capable of taking the higher-ranked player’s scalp!
