ERIKA ANDREEVA vs ANNA BLINKOVA - PICK

ERIKA ANDREEVA vs ANNA BLINKOVA – PICK

WTA LYON

There is no debating, Anna Blinkova is the more established player. In fact, the 24-year-old is firmly established in the top 100, and in 2022 she won 46 of her 75 matches.

However, during that campaign, two of her 29 defeats came against this opponent Erika Andreeva.  At the Bronx (hard court) and Lausanne (clay), the 18-year-old beat her older compatriot in straight sets.

As it stands, the 18-year-old won 113 of her 160 competitive matches. While she’s yet to break into the top hundred, her current ranking (134) suggests it won’t take long.

In two rounds of qualification, the teenager beat decent opponents Viktoriya Tomova and Diane Parry. In the first of those matches, Andreeva needed to come from a set behind to beat the 99-ranked player. Whereas, she finished her next opponent Parry in straight-sets.

Winning those matches should give Andreeva a physical advantage, and she’s at least proven herself on these courts.

Meanwhile, Blinkova made the semi-final of her opening tournament in Hobart. To make that stage, she had to beat higher-ranked players Marie Bouzkova and Yulia Putintseva. Unfortunately, she then failed to overcome Lauren Davis, and at the Australian Open, she was beaten in the first round by Madison Keys.

In 2022, Blinkova won Cluj and made the final of two other indoor tournaments. Nevertheless, she was beaten in the first round of 11 tournaments, and in 10 of those she was the betting favourite.

To summarise, our reasons for making this bet are four-fold. Firstly, the 2-0 head-to-head gives Andreeva the psychological advantage. Secondly, the 18-year-old will benefit from having played two rounds of qualification. Thirdly, she’s running into top form, and finally the odds!
