In the first round of the group phase, the Czech Republic suffered a 2-1 defeat to Portugal, courtesy of a late goal. An earlier own goal had levelled the score for Portugal, and in the 92nd minute, Francisco Conceicao capitalized on a rebound to seal the win. Despite the disappointment, Portugal’s dominance was clear with a 14-4 shot advantage and a decisive +1.58 xG margin.

In their next match, the Czech Republic rallied from a goal down to draw with Georgia. Hasek’s squad had 11 shots on goal and an xG exceeding 3, indicating they should have scored more than once. A VAR-disallowed goal added to their frustrations, but the main issue was their missed opportunities.

Patrick Schick, who netted the equalizer against Georgia, became his country’s all-time top scorer at the European Championship. However, the Bayer Leverkusen striker is doubtful for the upcoming game. If Schick is unavailable, either Mojmir Chytil or Adam Hlozek will take his place. No other changes are anticipated.

Turkey began the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Georgia, a match where an early goal underscored their dominance. However, they were defeated 3-0 by Portugal in their second match, with one of the goals resulting from a mix-up between defender and stand-in goalkeeper Altay Bayindir. Despite this setback, Turkey’s technical prowess has been evident, and the scoreline against Portugal does not fully reflect their performance.

On a positive note, Turkey hopes to have first-choice goalkeeper Mert Gunok back from a knee injury, though his return is uncertain. Irfan Can Kahveci is back in training, and Real Madrid prodigy Arda Guler is expected to return after a minor groin injury. Defender Abdulkerim Bardakci is suspended, so Merih Demiral is set to step into the defense.

Despite their loss to Portugal, Turkey has shown promise, and we expect them to exploit gaps against a more static opponent.
